Evolvement of my Painting Technique
Oil paint on canvas using a palette knife, exploring a different expression led to a new technique. The light and the movement, the underwater immersion
Seagrass 100 x 100 x 4.3cm 2023
Thinking of the light the movement of the seagrass in the current. The balancing of light and dark, colour, texture and rhythmic pattern Available in Canvas Gallery Winchester and Poole
It all started with…
Looking into that space beneath the wave curling over, the dark to light and the beauty of the movement. I was experimenting a lot with my oil paint techniques
‘New Wave’ — 80 x 100 cm 2020
The colours became even more distinct and in ‘stripes’ layered over each other.
‘Ascent’ — 60 x 70 cm 2020
The colours became more gradual, working on the moving light. It was a commission for an 18th Birthday present, someone who loved diving, it had to be just right. My friend showed it to the Gallery in Rosslare in Ireland who asked to stock my work
‘Winter Wave’ — 50 x 70 cm 2020
The colours became more distinct and separated in places by a ridge from the palette knife
‘Rays of Light’ 2024 — 100 x 240 x 4.3cm
Working further with the light and movement
‘Overlapping’ — 80 x 100 cm 2020
The colours became even more distinct and in ‘stripes’ layered over each other to create small waves within the bigger waves. The ridge from the palette knife became even more pronounced
‘Layers Beneath’ — 70 x 50 cm 2020
The colours became even more distinct and ‘stripey’ I wasn’t happy with the top of this so scraped off the top and painted over it, still not happy started again
‘Currently’ 2021 — 80 x 100 x 4.3cm
Worked on a bigger canvas and got more light and movement, this was sold by Canvas Gallery Poole where they stock my work
‘Undercurrents’ — 60 x 70 cm 2020
The waves became even more distinct thinking about the movement and light. This went to Rosslare Gallery in Ireland along with 3 others and sold immediately
‘Light In The Ocean’ 2023 150 x 120 x 4.3cm
Worked on a bigger canvas again exploring light and movement, this was shown on a billboard on London Underground Hyde Park Corner Station by Ad Lib Gallery London and Art Below 2023. This work and others are available to purchase through Ad Lib Gallery
